Getting Ready Tips for Stress-Free Wedding Mornings

Let’s chat about one of the most overlooked—but truly magical—parts of your wedding day: the getting-ready moments. It’s when the butterflies kick in, your favorite music is playing, and you’re surrounded by your favorite people. As a wedding photographer in Muskoka, this part of the day always holds so much emotion, laughter, and beauty. (It’s one of my favorite sessions too!)

Before we go to the most awaited “I do” part, I will be giving you some tips on how to perfect your Getting Ready photos from a photographer’s perspective!

Prep Your Details the Night Before

First and foremost, lay out all your important items in advance. Rings, shoes, invitations, perfume, vow books—put them all together in a little box or tray. Making sure no detail is left behind. It also saves time and gives us more space to get those dreamy flat lay shots. Let someone in your wedding party know where this is and they can show your photographer in the morning.

Wear Something Cute + Easy to Take Off

Matching robes or PJs with your bridesmaids is always a win. They’re cute for photos and won’t mess up your hair and makeup when it’s time to change. Think cozy, comfy, and chic. You can also get creative with this. Your “matching” doesn’t have to be the same, it can be a similar style or vibe.

Add Extra Time to Your Timeline

Another essential getting-ready tip? Build in buffer time. This gives you more room to relax and take out the stress. Hair and makeup can run late, or you may need a few moments to breathe (or cry happy tears). Adding 15–30 extra minutes helps everything feel calmer, and joyful, allowing you to be fully present during this part of the day.

Don’t Forget to Eat and Drink Water

The wedding day will give you all kinds of emotions at once, so you might lose your appetite. But food is fuel! A light breakfast or a few bites of a sandwich will help you stay present and energized. Hydration = glowing skin, too!

Surround Yourself with Good Energy

The people with you during these moments matter more than you think. Choose bridesmaids, friends, or family who bring positivity and ease to your morning. Laughter, hugs, and emotional support make for the best photos.

Take a Quiet Moment for Yourself

Before you step into your dress or suit, pause. Look around. Take a deep breath. Soak it all in. This can also be the perfect time to write your wedding vows. These are the moments that become core memories—and I’ll be there to quietly capture every bit of it.

Whether you’re in a cozy Muskoka cottage or a luxury resort suite, the vibe you create here will carry through the whole wedding. So play your favorite playlist. Hug your people. And let’s make magic from the very beginning.Need help planning your timeline or looking for that person who will capture the best moments of your wedding day? I’ve got you.
